This weekend was a big moment in my life. My husband and I moved out of the home we’ve lived in for 4 years and into an apartment while our new home is being remodeled. The past 2 months or so before the move was busy with organizing, packing and then the actual moving day, that I didn’t think too much about the significance of it. But, walking through the house for the final time on Saturday, I felt the emotions of this new step. It’s exciting though and it’s change!
And now, how to make an apartment (or any unfamiliar space) feel like home? Here are a few tips:
1. Open windows + turn on the fans to get in some fresh air.
2. Sage the entire space. Walk through each room waving a sage smudge stick to clear any negative energy or any energy that isn’t yours. Consider it a fresh start! Here’s how to do it. 3. Set up your furniture so it feels right to you. It’s especially helpful if you bring some favorite pieces from your previous place.
4. Unpack + get organized. But, don’t overwhelm yourself by opening all the boxes right away. Give yourself a few days to go through the boxes + only unpack what you need. 5. Light a scented candle, like this Juliska Honeysuckle & Jasmine one. 6. Continue your daily routine as usual + do so mindfully.
In the words of Maya Angelou, “I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself.”
I’d love to know — how do you help yourself feel at home wherever you are?
